RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

I have decided to drive to Virginia to see my daughter and family for Thanksgiving. I'll be at her in-laws (good friends) along with daughter and family. They have a big house. They will take their dog, Pepper, and I will have Brendon. They know each other and get along. Mostly they ignore each other. I will be driving my car as the weather there along the coast can be iffy. Then in December I will stay in Florida and visit my son and his family. Dale

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Dale. Hope the light coat you got is really one you like. that seems to be the way I get my favorite clothing. I guess the booty of the whole deal was seeing the rocket launch! Lucky you! Did that excite the children? Of course, if they see it regularly they may have just taken it as an everyday occurrence. God Bless you for being there for your grands. So many people today just sail on in life and ignore them. Love reading your posts, hugs the rosie one. I do like the jacket. In fact, there were two I really liked, both different weights. I actually went back the next day and bought the other one. They were only $34 at Burlington. My only jackets/coats are all 30 years old as we stayed in warm weather the entire time we fulltimed. Now even visiting relatives in Indiana in the summer, I sometimes need a light coat. Sorry to hear about your fall. Take care of yourself. Yes, down here in Florida, especially on the east coast, we see rocket launches all the time, but as people say. . . it never gets old. Everyone at the park stopped and watched the rocket at least for a few minutes. It was pretty cool. Dale

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Hello FOOFs We got our first taste of cool weather here in West Central Florida the last couple of days. Well, cool for Florida anyway. It was 53 degrees this morning. ZuZu is loving this cool weather. She has some thick fur/hair and she is hot all the time. I couldn't get her to come in this morning as she was enjoying being outside. She is such a sweet dog. She is starting to grow out of puppy mode. Monty really likes the cool weather as well. He was acting all frisky yesterday when he was outside. Pinto hates the cool/cold weather so he goes outside just long enough to do his business and wants back inside. During the summer, he bakes himself outside on the patio. I hope everyone is doing well. Burch I am staying with my granddaughter in Melbourne while the kids are in Colorado for a business conference. I forgot outerwear as I don't need it in central Florida, but here on the coast it got cold. Since I am at the ball park every night till 8:30-9 for either practice or a game, I had to go buy a coat, lightweight, but heavier than my sweater. LOL A big caveat was that the other night just as the game ended, that rocket launched, went right over us. What a magnificent sight! I videotaped it and have it on FB. I had to turn on heat here. LOL DAle

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Glad ZuZu is doing better. Liver failure is part of what contributed to my DH's death. But his was caused by taking a medicine for 17 years longer than he needed and it killed the liver. No coming back from that. Glad you were able to turn yours around! It's another condition Scotties are known for and if treated, it doesn't cause much of a problem. Brendon got so much exercise this summer with my sister's dogs that he lost a pound! The vet was very concerned. I said not to worry. If you could have seen him playing every day till he crashed, one would understand! We will see if the supplement does its job. Dale

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Kind of annoying isnt it Scottiemom? Now he has to go thru not feeling well again and have all that testing! I was so lucky with my little yorkie. She was well right up to when I lost her. Her trac collapsed and She and I were in agony. Luckily we were at home and we had her regular vet able to see her and put her down. I have to admit, I cried for her for a couple of days. She has been gone almost 2 years and I still miss her. First time I have been without a dog for years. My grand daughters intended is bringing his dog here to stay next week. A mut, but I really like him. Yeah, it's annoying for sure. I had one other Scottie with high liver enzymes and he was on Denamarin for years which kept it in check. . . enough. I'm hoping this supplement does its job again. I know what you mean about missing the dogs. When our last one died, my DH didn't want another right away as we were in the process of moving across the country. Then, just as we got the move completed, DH died. I waited till I was ready, then got another. He is my rock. Have fun with your granddaughter's doggie. Dale

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

ZuZu certainly has had her share of problems. Check her paw/nails very carefully. Perhaps she caught a nail on the gate and it tore or jammed a toe. Just a thought, but it seems to be centered on that paw and not the leg from what you said. Wonder if you were able to wrap the paw gently and loosely if that would help. Had Brendon to the vet the first of the month. His liver enzymes are elevated, a typical problem with Scotties. He had it before and his then vet put him on a liver supplement. By the time I changed vets, his tests were back to normal so the new vet took him off the supplement. I thought that odd, since the supplement obviously made a difference in the liver enzymes. I asked her why she had taken him off of it and she said there was no reason to keep a healthy dog on a supplement. Well, yeah, understood, but we put him on it because he wasn't healthy. So now we are back to the supplement and testing. Ho hum. Dale

RE: Natchez Trace

What is the Trace? The Natchez Trace is a road built on an old Indian Trail that runs from Nashville, TN, to Natchez, MS. We used to run it every year when we would go to Red Bay, Alabama, for service on our Tiffin. My husband was born near there and we loved the Trace. For 15 years, I drove our 40' Phaeton towing a car. Absolutely no problems. It is a bit narrow. . . you need to focus, not a lot of room for error, but I loved it. Maximum speed is 50 mph, 45 in the extreme northern part. No commercial traffic or trucks, just cars, pickups, etc. People out for a leisurely drive. There are point of interest along the way and a visitor's center along the route. Very relaxing. Almost always see wildlife. Lots of pull offs, places to stop for lunch. There are some comfort stations. Cell phones won't work well, though. Great drive. Dale

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

I left this morning for the Coach House Rally in Natchez. After driving a hard two days from Virginia to my home in central Florida last week, I decided to stick to my original plan for miles, around 250 for the day. I wanted to get home after Hurricane Idalia prolonged my stay up north. So I am staying at Tally East. Used to stay here years ago, but it looks rather unkempt and run down now. I will work for an overnight, though, Vet called me last night to tell me Brendon's liver enzymes are high (blood work last week). Hmmmm. So we talked about a plan and will get busy on that when we return home. Dale

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Made it home this afternoon and got everything tucked back under cover just in time for the worst storm of the season to unleash on us. Lots of rain, thunder, lightning, etc. It rattled the windows a few times. Neighbors said it was the worst one all season. Glad to be home. Dale

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Thanks for the good wishes. I made it just over 400 miles yesterday. Stopped for the night in Walterboro, SC. Today I have 387 miles to go to get home. Should be easy. No problems yesterday. Started out with light rain, not heavy, and occasionally some wind gusts. I could tell there was more wind, but this Coach House is so aerodynamic, it just went past without jostling me around. Once I got on I-95 at Rocky Mount, everything was dry and stayed that way. Happy Holidays to everyone. Stay safe! Dale

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

I'm gonna make a run for it this morning. Leaving earlier than I normally do, but gonna try and make it home in 2 days. Don't wanna sit in this campground any longer, especially with winds coming as I have rotted limbs that have fallen all around me for a couple days. Dale

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

I am sitting in a campground in Chesapeake, VA, having extended my stay twice to avoid having to run into that storm. Scheduled to leave tomorrow morning headed home. Hoping I can skirt it as it heads out to see. My place in Polk City is fine. Dale

When my Sheltie had knee surgery and had to stay quiet I put her on a leash in the house. Even just dragging it around with no human attached kept her from running. Dale

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Best wishes for a great getaway, Dan and Patty. You will be missing Pickles for sure, but she is there is spirit. Burch, how is ZuZu doing? Last we heard you were going to be taking her to the vet. I have started my trek home to Florida from Northern Indiana. Currently I'm in Charlottesville, Virginia, visiting with my daughter and family. It's been a quick summer seems like, but the heat of Florida is still waiting on me. LOL Dale

RE: Factory Tours

There are plenty of decent hotels in the area, just off the toll road exit on Ind 19 and near CR4. I believe most if not all the factories can accommodate you for a tour. Just check ahead of time. Imagine their websites give a number to call. Dale
